INTERNATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEES

GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE - Steve Thorpe

The past couple years our opportunity to host an exchange student has become less frequent. This committee will continue to develop interest in the program even in the years that we do not have a student here.  They will always be ready to welcome another student when the opportunity comes up..

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH EXCHANGES - Steve Thorpe

A goal for this committee is to have a list of host families for the chance to host an exchange student.   This committee must also stay in communication with our outbound student. Additionally, this committee must continue to work to cultivate an interest by local high school students in becoming Rotary Exchange Students.

INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

SHOEBOX PROJECT - Steve Thorpe

The Waterloo Rotary Club, in conjunction with partners from the CedarValley will ship approximately 2,700 boxes to Father Dessey's "Children of the Dump" orphanage in Chinandega, Nicaragua.  The boxes will be filled with gifts, toys, clothing and personal care items for a wide range of ages. Other projects for the Children in Nicaragua are: 500 Layettes for new mothers, sending bikes and sewing machines with fabric.  These items will be shipped the second week in October, in time for distribution during the Christmas 2009 holiday.

ROTARY FOUNDATION/PAUL HARRIS FELLOWSHIP - Kathy Braun

The club will continue to emphasize the Doug's Team Project, in honor of Rotarian Doug Oberman's fight against polio.  All Rotarians who contribute to Doug's Team will receive a special Doug's Team pin attached to their name badges as well as recognition on a special Doug's Team plaque.

In keeping with "$100 Per Rotarian per Year" the club will continue the quarterly billing program for Rotarians who have elected to participate.
