Todd Rohlfsen picked up a stack of layettes at Monday's meeting and hopes you'll also lend your time and talents to helping our Shoebox Project!

Legendary Rotarian and "Shoebox Master" Steve Thorpe has an URGENT need for warehouse space this year.  He's desperate to find a space with a loading dock that can be used from mid August to late September to sort and pack all the materials headed for Chinandega this fall.  If you know of any businesses or real estate developers that might a space our club can use for this life-changing project, please email or call Steve right away.

There are already over 2,000 shoeboxes out being filled by hundreds of volunteers and our club has about 60 more boxes yet to be claimed and filled. Dave Lee and Jim Seeley will greet you before Monday's meeting and collect your support checks ($40/box) or hand out empty boxes.

The need to fill layettes with supplies for new mothers is more dire - about 500 empty layettes need to be picked up and filled.  A support check for $40 each will cover the contents...but who will procure and fill those layettes?  Glad you asked!  Volunteers are needed from now through mid September to shop for shoebox items and layette contents.  We'll also recruit as many helpers as possible to fill and check each shoebox and layette for the appropriate items before they are stacked into cartons for shipping.

Email Steve here or call his mobile (319-830-3012) with any leads on a warehouse or with details on how you can help make the future brighter for the kids in Chinandega.  Remember to pick up your shoeboxes and/or layettes at Monday's meeting!
