Julie Hayes has been a member of the Waterloo Rotary Club since 1998 and has been very supportive of Club endeavors and programs. For the last 7 years Julie has been the Club’s Treasurer, making sure the Club was keeping up with all financial things. She’s spent much of the last year providing her great knowledge of finances and helping the Club tremendously. The Waterloo Rotary Club is honored to present the Rotarian of the Year award to Julie Hayes for a year of focused leadership and steadfast resolve, implementing austere measures to make sure our club was living within its means. Gabriel is departing on July 6 to head back to France, but during his time in the United States his host families included Rotarian Mark and Brenda Durbahn, Rotarian Bonnie and Roger Smith, and Tammy Carpenter. Thank you to the host families for allowing Gabe to be part of their home during his stay. We wish Gabe the best of luck in his future. The Trustees of the Rotary Foundation and the Waterloo Rotary Club honor Steve and Liz Thorpe for their substantial contribution toward the goal of international understanding and peace! In doing so, they support and honor the humanitarian and educational programs of the Rotary Foundation that make a difference in the lives of others. The Thorpe’s, as a major donor, are among a dedicated group who have committed themselves to helping others less fortunate. Thank you again, Steve and Liz, for your generous support. Our club welcomed these new members receiving their pins: Kevin Sonnenberg (Wade Itzen), Pam Delagardelle (Phil Nash), Jim Schaefer (Bette Wubbena), and Matt Mahler (Brian Aronson) Our long-time Sergeant at Arms Bill Robert has handed the reigns to Norman Ussery who will assume the meet-and-greet role Bill took on nearly 20 years ago when Dave Lee cornered him asking him to help managing the distribution of badges. While I am sure the job duties have changed over the years, one thing holds true… Bill is a treasure, a smiling face, and has learned ALL of our names over the years!! Thank you to Bill Robert for your continuing commitment to the Waterloo Rotary Club.
