We'll hear from Gary Rima about the Cedar Valley CourtKings who brought home the Midwest Basketball League Championship last summer.
Gary hosts “On Press Row” weekdays at 5 p.m. on News/Talk 1540 KXEL and he's been the voice of University of Northern Iowa Panther athletics for more than 20 years. He's a two-time Iowa Sportscaster of the Year award winner. Born in Postville, Rima is a proud graduate of Starmont High School and has been involved in sports broadcasting for more than 40 years.
The Waterloo Rotary Club will be walking in the My Waterloo Days parade TONIGHT! Wear a Rotary shirt and bring your spouse, your kids/grandkids, and even your furry friends and walk to support the Club.
Meet at the corner of Third and Mulberry by 5:45 p.m.
Our club is also sponsoring the fireworks Saturday night - spread the word and bring the family downtown to support the community!
For the 16th year our club is leading a multi-state effort to help children in Nicaragua by providing boxes of gifts which we will be delivering next December.
“Shoebox ramrod” Steve Thorpe began handing out those boxes June 5. Each one is marked with the age and sex of an intended recipient. The list of recommended contents can be found on our club’s web site, http://waterloorotary.org/SitePage/nicaragua-shoebox-project. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find excel files, one for boys and one for girls.
Boxes will be due back around September 1; and plan now to travel with us next December to see for yourself the difference our efforts have made.
Students must maintain good grades and attend school at least 80 percent of the year to qualify for the box. Education is considered essential for those kids to escape the grip of extreme poverty, defined as living on less that one Euro a day, or about one third of the cost of a coffee at some places in Iowa.
