"I invite you to imagine the possibilities," offered District Governor Don Meyer in his opening comments to attendees at The Cultural Immersion Workshop on Thursday, November 3rd. Also greeting attendees, Dr. Todd Holcomb, Rotarian and President of Hawkeye Community College welcomed attendees offering that, "diversity, equity, and inclusion are part of the strategic direction for the college, it's an honor to host you, Annie, and this workshop today."

Nearly 30 members in attendance enjoyed immersing themselves in a new way of understanding how to connect with individuals who are different from themselves. Felicia Smith-Nalls, HR and Community Outreach Coordinator for Tyson Foods was the moderator for the Cultural Informant panel. The informants included experts from the Congolese, Haitian, Latino, and homeless alternative lifestyle communities.

Waterloo Rotary Club President, Annie Vander Werff reflects on the workshop offering, "we danced salsa, ate Puerto Rican-style, laughed, learned, and inspired beautifully transformed thinking." The Waterloo Rotary Club looks forward to continuing the conversation as we host more cross-cultural conversations and enjoy a Progressive Cultural Dinner at our annual fundraiser event in the spring.
