Join us Monday to hear from 99th district Iowa State Representative Abby Finkenauer. She is running for US Representative for Iowa's 1st district and if she wins the election November 6th, she could be the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.
Our meeting will start PRECISELY at NOON, so we ask all Rotarians and guests arrive early and be in your seats by 11:55 AM. Abby has another event and will need to leave at 12:40.
Iowa's first district covers much of Northeast Iowa and includes Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Marshalltown, and Dubuque. Here is a link to a Courier article with details on both candidates.
November is Rotary Foundation Month and we hope you’ve made plans in your club to promote the good work of the Foundation and to implement your fundraising plan to support that good work. We just celebrated World Polio Day. Our challenge is before us. Let’s keep our “Countdown To History” going and end polio now. Thank you for your gifts to the PolioPlus Fund. It remains the Foundation’s top priority!
Thank you also for your gifts to the Annual Fund of the Foundation. They promote peace, provide clean water, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economies, and fight disease. These gifts are transformed into service projects that change lives close to home and around the world.
Here’s a link to the contribution form you can use, or your Club Foundation Chair can use, to designate your gift: Form 123-EN. You can give to both PolioPlus and the Annual Fund. Be sure your designations are clearly marked on the contribution form, or make sure your Club Foundation Chair, or whoever is sending the gifts to the Foundation, clearly understands and delineates the designations you prefer.
If you make your gift online, you may also designate your gift.
Remember also that we have tools that are tested and proven to help you raise funds in your club. Our District Foundation team is ready to help you! Just let me know and we’ll get you the tools you need.
While we know from experience that the most successful fundraising clubs promote the Foundation every month, we encourage you to have fun with the Foundation in November!
The Trustees of The Rotary Foundation have allowed the use of additional District Designated Funds for District Grants in 2019-20. In addition to the formulated amount District 5970 will get for next year’s grants (approximately $75,000), we will have an additional $18,610 available.
That means our club should be thinking about, planning for, and submitting an application for a district grant for 2019-20. You have a terrific opportunity to be funded.
The Grant Management Seminar training will be offered two times next spring. To qualify for a district grant, our club is required to have a representative participate in one of the training sessions. Here are the two choices:
Saturday, March 30 from 10 – 11:00 am—online only
Saturday, April 27 in the afternoon (time TBD)—at the District Conference in Clear Lake, IA (we may offer this one online as well)
You’ll be hearing more about the District Grant program in the coming months. In the meantime, start planning! Questions? Please contact Don Meyer, District Foundation Chair, at 641-251-4665, or at foundationchair@district5970.org
November is always a month for extraordinary meetings, and this year is no exception. While our Rotarians born in November will certainly celebrate with their families on their special day, we will honor them with their December counterparts. Be sure to reach out the these Rotarians with a greeting on their birthday!
