November 11 Program - Volleyball Luncheon
The Annual Rotary Volleyball Banquet celebrates local players and their season. The Guest Speaker this year is Beth West. Beth is a former UNI Volleyball player herself from 2006-2010 (née Discher). West earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and was a first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference performer in 2010. She was UNI’s candidate for NCAA Woman of the Year in 2011. After graduating, West worked in Des Moines and recently returned to her alma mater where she is now the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Business at the University of Northern Iowa.

The Volleyball committee could use about 6 Rotarians before Monday's meeting to welcome our guests. Contact Barb Prather if you can show up about 11:30 to either serve as a greeter or accept money for the guest meal.

Ramada Hotel News

News came this week of the completed sale of the downtown Ramada hotel to South Dakota-based Mekenda LLC. All the Ramada employees lost their jobs when the sale was completed and the building will close for business and undergo major renovations for the next 9 months. Our regular meeting venue in the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center will remain open and functioning during the hotel renovation, and the convention center staff are still employed.  Click here to read a recent Courier article about the hotel project.

Our club will operate as normal and continue meeting at noon on Mondays.  The next two weeks are larger meetings as we honor volleyball and football athletes, so we will meet upstairs.  Monday November 25th, we will NOT have a regular meeting as it is Thanksgiving week.  We'll be back in our regular room downstairs December 2nd.

Jump Start Your Rotary Giving!
Have you considered giving to YOUR Rotary Foundation on an on-going basis to support not only Rotarians’ international activities but also those at our district and local level?
Or, maybe you have been giving regularly when you pay your quarterly dues?  Would you like to help make our Treasurer’s duties a little lighter by automating those payments via your credit card directly through Rotary?
Well, we want to give you some incentives to accomplish all of that!
If you have never given to The Rotary Foundation, the club will match your first $100 with 100 points (equal to $100) as soon as you reach that level!  Just sign up for automated donations!
If you have given to The Rotary Foundation in the past but have not yet reached the Paul Harris Fellow level ($1,000), the club will immediately award you 100 points (equal to $100) if you sign up for automated donations!
If you are currently giving to The Rotary Foundation by sending the funds with your quarterly dues to our Treasurer, we will immediately award you 100 points (equal to $100) if you sign up for automated donations instead!
Need help setting up automated donations through Rotary?  Have questions?  Let Deb Pullin-Van Auken know (deb.pullinvanauken@usbank.com or 319-235-3255), and she will answer all your questions.  She can even send you step-by-step instructions on how to sign into “My Rotary” at www.rotary.org.
What are you waiting for?  Let’s jump start OUR Rotary Foundation giving!
