Rick Petersen of Tyson Speaking May 23
Our very own Rick Petersen is telling us the latest at Tyson here in Waterloo!
Rick Petersen began his career with Tyson Foods, then IBP, in 1990 in Madison, Neb as a frontline worker. Soon after he moved into a supervisory role and eventually was promoted to a plant leadership position. He has held several leadership positions in the company’s Storm Lake, Waterloo and Logansport, Indiana pork facilities. In 2021, Rick was named Complex Manager for Tyson Foods’ Waterloo pork plant. Main Street Sweep May 21
Here's another hands-on volunteer opportunity that has a direct impact on our amazing downtown: Main Street Waterloo is hosting their annual clean-up Saturday, May 21st and this time THERE'S LUNCH!  Main Street Sweep is an opportunity to ensure our downtown is a beautiful, healthy, inviting space after a long winter.

Last year more than 30 volunteers teamed up with Main Street Waterloo staff, business owners and property owners to rid downtown of more than 1000 pounds of litter. As we look to harness the power of people in our community to achieve great things by joining together. Bringing the beauty of downtown back lies in the cooperation and collaboration of our community. The simple act of cleaning can become a force that binds together people and groups working towards the same goal.

Speller's True Value is the presenting sponsor, and they donated tools, bags, gloves, etc.  This year Holiday Inn/Bien Venu and Gray Lane Yoga will provide a lunch for volunteers at a wrap up party hosted by Anton's Garden.  Main Street Waterloo does need a head count for the appreciation lunch, so sign up online right now for one or more individual shifts - the earlier you sign up the more choices you'll have for which area of our downtown you'd like to spiff up!

Travel to India to Help Vaccinate Against Polio

Dave Buck wanted to get this message in front of as many Rotarians as possible - the deadline is approaching fast to participate in what might be the last Immunization event sponsored by the Indian Government.

>>
Hello Fellow Rotarians,

We are thrilled to announce that we will be taking a group to India to participate in a National Polio Immunization Day this September.  Attached is a document that provides detailed information about this extraordinary trip and a means to join.   You can also find more information on our website:  www.HowardTours.net

Please feel free to share this information with the Rotarians and clubs in your District as soon as possible as the size of this group will be limited and confirmations in the program will be on a first come, first served basis.   We expect this trip to be filled within the next week or two.

In 2015, India was declared polio free, and polio is now endemic in only two countries. As a result, there are fewer and fewer opportunities to participate in a NID worldwide.  This may be one of the last opportunities you will have to join a trip to participate in polio NID activities.

Trip Highlights:  We travel to Delhi, India to participate in the polio NID activities and attend other related Rotary events.  In addition, we travel to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, and the magnificent Pink City of Jaipur to visit the famous Rotary Jaipur Limb factory.

Date of Departure:        Friday, September 09, 2022

Date of Return:             Tuesday, September 20, 2022

We look forward to traveling with you.

Please Note: The Indian Rotary leadership has stated that this is expect to be one of the last, if not the last, times that the Government will hold a National Polio Immunization program.
If you have always wanted to participate in an NID, this may be your last your opportunity for this experience.

Our journey will combine participation in India’s National Polio Immunization activities, interaction with local Rotary clubs and their projects while visiting some of India’s most extraordinary sights.

"You will never be the same after you have looked into the appreciative eyes of someone whose life you have changed."
