Stilwill is entering his 39th season as artistic and managing director and our own Henry Edsill is WCP's current board president. |

First Scottish RI President John Kenny
by Mason Fromm The 2009-10 RI theme, The Future of Rotary Is in Your Hands, emphasizes the individual clubs that make up the heart and soul of the organization. Here is an excerpt from John Kenny's Travelouge: I'm honored to be representing you for the next 12 months. You are the future of Rotary and a hope for a better world. Truly, as my theme says, The Future of Rotary Is in Your Hands. I'm looking forward to seeing many projects and meeting many Rotarians as I make my visits during my presidential year. Rotary was founded on a clear idea that if people of good character, intelligence, and morals joined together, they could achieve a great deal more than they could alone. I have seen this every time I visit a Rotary club or an amazing project. Even as president-elect, Rotarians welcomed me into their clubs and shared with me the work they were doing to make the world a better place. As an example, I was moved when I was in Pune, India, when a girl who is visually impaired read me her Interact club's charter in Braille -- the first, I believe, ever presented to an Interact club. Also in India, I admired the work of Rotarians in helping to eradicate polio during a National Immunization Day. You can read the rest of this entry, and see pictures of President Kenny here. |

Upcoming Projects
by Mason Fromm Two of our club projects need your help! The Teddy Project and the Shoebox Project are getting underway. Click the Site Pages link on the left of our home page to read the details for each project: TEDDY PROJECT:The Luxeuil-les-Bains Rotary Club in France initiated a project, which is about giving the opportunity to a young French guy, Cedric Cholley (Teddy), who lives in a wheelchair, to make his dream real: discover big American farms, his passion. All the travel expenses are taken care of, Teddy and his mother just need us to arrange visits of interesting farm-related sites and overnight stays for a 10-day trip to America. We'll team up with the Crossroads Rotary Club to make Teddy's Dreams Real. If you are interested in helping, please email Mason. SHOEBOX PROJECT:Our largest international project involves hundreds of volunteers, a dozen other Rotary clubs, and two semi truckloads of donated material. Every summer and fall for the past 7 years, our club has spearheaded this effort to relieve the day to day struggle for children in Nicaragua. These poor children are reduced to fighting cows and dogs for food they can scavenge from the local garbage dump. A corps of Rotarians and volunteers travel to Nicaragua each November to distribute not only shoeboxes filled with new clothing, school supplies and toiletries, but also layettes for new mothers, durable medical equipment, bicycles, sewing machines, and garden tools. This is a major undertaking that could not be possible without the selfless determination of our fellow Rotarians, Steve Thorpe and David Buck. Remembering the 1965 Convention
by Buck, David Ken's Father, Roy Allbaugh, a Rotarian from Eagle Grove, attended the 1965 RI convention in Atlantic City Roy owned a women's wear and dry goods store in Eagle Grove, Iowa in 1965 when he travelled to Atlantic City, NJ to attend the RI convention. He managed to take several pictures of the event which his grandson Dave recently came across, including this one of former Presidential candidate Adlai Stevnson speaking to the group.
