District Executive Laura Hayes has worked with Scouting America in some capacity for much of
her adult life. She started in Scouting in the early 1990s as a District Executive in Northwest
Indiana. After three years, a move resulted in a career change, and over the years she has
worked as a Veterinary Technician, Music Teacher, Insurance Agent, and Stay-at-home-Mom
and caregiver.

In 2008, her son joined Scouting as a Tiger, and Laura took up the mantle of
Volunteer Scout leader, seeing him through the next thirteen years of his Scouting career. In
2021, she returned to the Scouting Profession with Winnebago Council, again as a District
Executive. She is responsible for recruiting Scouts and Adult Volunteers, Fundraising, and
Program Planning for the 6-county River Valley District, which covers the SE third of Winnebago
Council.

In her free time, she plays flute with the Independence Community Band, reads
anything she can find, and dabbles in various hobbies, including cat training, crochet, and most
currently, watercolor painting.
