Katy Susong - President and CEO of Cardinal Construction - is our guest speaker on Monday!
 

Katy is a graduate of the University of Northern lowa and has been employed with Cardinal Construction since 2012. She was named CEO and President of Cardinal Construction last year, which makes her the first female CEO in the company's 127-year history. Katy leads the mid-sized commercial construction company that serves clients in senior living, education, industrial, and healthcare sectors. She guides the execution of the company's short and long-term strategic initiatives while providing leadership and guidance to everyone on the Cardinal team. She aims to create a strategy that everyone on our team can get behind to ensure that we are executing well on the projects that we have committed to.

 

Along with guiding the company's strategy, Katy places a strong emphasis on the importance of business development, income diversification, process refinement, and team development as these are all areas that she strives to excel in. Katy is passionate about team member development and providing opportunities for leadership. She creates pathways for employees to enjoy fulfilling and successful careers at Cardinal Construction. Katy has made a significant impact on what is traditionally a male-dominated industry. She plans to continue to have a balanced boardroom and leadership team because she believes varied perspectives bring the best results to her team. Katy is a Building Committee Member for the new headquarters building with Master Builders of Iowa and is a Founding Board Member of Construction Safety Services of Iowa (CSSI).

Katy's natural leadership abilities allow her to not only lead her team and industry well, but also extends to her involvement in the Cedar Valley. Katy serves on the Boys and Girls Club of the Cedar Valley Board of Directors, most recently as Board Chairperson. She is actively involved with Grow Cedar Valley; Katy has served on Grow Cedar Valley's Board of Directors as an Executive Committee Member and Grow Cedar Valley's Community Development Council where she serves as an ambassador. She is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Waterloo-Cedar Falls and is on the Board of Appeals for the City of Cedar Falls. She also enjoys being a Purpose Committee Member with Gallagher Bluedorn Events and serves as an Advisory Board Member for Lincoln Savings Bank.
