We’re still operating like a club with over 200 members, but we only have 137.

You no doubt have read that our beloved club administrator Kelli McCarthy has resigned effective June 2 after she graduates from UNI. It will be a big loss; for years we’ve all said in one form or another, “Kelli will do that.”
So here’s part of the back story.
During its regular monthly meeting March 23, board members voted to make several changes to reduce overhead to avoid raising dues. The discussion was led by club Treasurer Julie Hayes.
The changes include:
--Closing the office in the Waterloo Building and paying staff to work from home. This would include cancelling the phone line.
--Changing the accounting system from “cash” to “accrual” to more accurately reflect our financial position.
--Reducing the cost of paying for the job Kelli has done for several years.

Club membership has inched up slightly this year this year. But our fixed expenses are still designed for a much larger group.
In March we approved three new members and accepted one resignation from Howard Gallatin who moved to Illinois. Adding more new members would help, so “Get your Ask On” and help us continue to thrive.

Our club is facing the same problems seen across the country. The Waterloo Crossroads club folded in December and the two clubs in Dubuque merged four years ago. Our membership is “graying” and potential younger members have trouble finding the time and the money to join.
