Today's cold snap is a stark reminder that many school children are lacking basic essentials for cold Iowa winters. Our Club, with the great leadership of Steve Thorpe, has been assisting youth in our community by providing coats through Operation Warm.

69% of the student population in Waterloo is on free or reduced lunch status. Likely this means they don't all have access to warm weather gear as the temperature dips.

The countdown is on to get coats ordered (must be ordered by October 20) and I am writing to remind you to make your contribution by October 18. Checks can be written to the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, ATTN: Operation Warm. Their mailing address is 3117 Greenhill Circle, Cedar Falls, IA 50613

For some of you, volunteering is another way you can give to this worthwhile Club project. In the coming weeks Steve will have a sign-up for volunteers to find a time to assist with fitting coats at the local schools. This is such a fun, heartwarming activity. Please take part!

Our Club is so lucky to have the service projects we do, but these can't be done without the helpful hands of all of you. Consider making a contribution either through your time or dollars to make this another successful project.

Yours in service,

Lauren Finke
