No Meeting Monday
by Buck, David Because of the annual chili supper January 18, we will not meet on the 19th. The 19th is also Martin Luther King Day This year's King Holiday is one day before the Inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama. The President-elect will participate in community service on King Day and is asking Americans to serve on the holiday and make an ongoing commitment to service. Organizers hope the President-elect's call to service will lead to millions of Americans honoring Dr. King through community service. |

Salvation Army Gift Sets New Record
by Mason Fromm The members of our club have really stepped up this year and continued the tradition of record-setting annual gifts to the Salvation Army. President Mason Fromm presented Captain Rob Whitney with a check for $11,025 at Monday's meeting. The summer of 2008 proved to be very challenging for the Cedar Valley's charitable organizations, and with the recent national economic downturn, this record gift proves Rotarians are committed to our community. |

Service Above Self Award
by Shannon Farlow On February 16th, our club will honor Dr. Martin Averill with The Service Above Self Award, given to non-Rotarians who exemplify the spirit of Rotary. Dr. Averill was instrumental in bringing the Mercy Free Dental Clinic to Waterloo October 3rd and 4th, 2008.' The free clinic served 1,253 patients and provided services totaling $602,540. Never Miss A Meeting Again!
by Buck, David If you find yourself out of town some upcoming Monday and you want to get credit for going to Rotary, you can do it on the Internet. A story in the January issue of The Rotarian magazine tells how. Details on how to find a club that speaks a language you can read and the procedure for "attending" can be found on the net at www.rotary.org/en/MediaAndNews/News/Pages/081222_news_howto.aspx. Many internet clubs ask you to pay a fee similar to the amount you would pay at your own club via one of the on-line payment programs such as PayPal. Two requirements for getting a make up for attending an on-line meeting are: 1. Spend at least 30 minutes on line, and 2. Answer a few questions about what you've read.
