Next Meeting: July 12th

Our first program in the new Rotary year will be July 12th, and we'll preview the Waterloo Community Playhouse's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The show has very little spoken dialogue, it is sung-through almost completely. It runs under two hours and is occasionally performed without intermission. It has a family-friendly storyline, universal themes, and catchy music. Written by the team of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

Rotary Summer Break

For the next two weeks, you'll have to find lunch on your own!

We will not have a regular Monday meeting on June 28th due to the annual Steak Fry this week.  We will also honor this year's legal public holiday Monday July 5th, since the 4th of July falls on a Sunday.

Use your "time off" wisely and be ready to hit the ground running as then-President Amber starts another banner year for your club on July 12th.

Time to sign up for shoeboxes

To make sure every child in the schools we support gets a Christmas box, we need the help of every club member

In early July we will be asked to sign up to fill one or more shoeboxes for the children in Nicaragua. And July is a great time to begin when summer clothes and school supplies go on sale.

Many of the 35 other organizations which help us annually have already committed to help again, but only half of our own members did so in 2009. Average cost is less than $40 if you shop the sales.

If you can't shop yourself, you can make a cash donation to The Community Foundation and we'll find someone to shop for you. Be sure to mark your check "Nicaragua shoebox fund". And if you want to join us on the trip this year, we plan to leave Iowa on November 30 and return December 7.  Contact Steve Thorpe for details.

Rotary's Leadership rolls over July 1

From the international President down, new team takes the wheel

Rotarian Ray Klinginsmith from Missouri becomes International President in July, replacing John Kenny of Scotland. In Iowa, Governor Gerald Retzlaff of Monticello retires and is replaced by Roger Kueter of Cedar Falls.

In our club Amber Jedlicka will assume the tough task of taking the reins from President Steve Carignan. Outgoing board members include Ken Cutts, Sue Hennings, Al Ricks, Sindee Kleckner , Tom Arthur and Sue Beach. They will be replaced by Tunis Den Hartog, Patty Achey Cutts, Annie Vander Werff, Bryan Burton and Harrison Cass. Amber's two-year term had ended, but as President, she's continue.

Harrison Cass will take a one-year leave of absence from the club so he can move to Grand Island, NE where he will be the interim superintendent of schools.

In another club first, Ken Cutts' spot on the board will be taken by his wife Patty.
